What a Crazy Idea:
A Project to Send Computers Overseas
While he was on furlough Dave Hall was disturbed to see computers being tossed out that would be greatly valued back in Africa. Then he had a crazy idea. He had collected a large quantity of computers. What if he went for broke and shipped a container load of them into the port of Abidjan? It wouldn't be easy; port authorities were corrupt and Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa, was divided by civil war.
What came of Dave’s crazy idea? In October of 2003 a container loaded with 84 CPUs, 102 monitors, 13 printers, 15 sewing machines and one Risograph press arrived in Abidjan. But the story doesn't end there.
