Ron and Tonda’s experience in short-term cross-cultural ministry began with a family trip to Brazil in 1988. Their involvement continued through their local church by leading numerous short-term trips, and serving as youth leaders and mission directors. Ron and Tonda joined the WEC Trek USA Team in 2000. Their favorite part of their job is working with people who have a heart for the lost people of this world.
My cross-cultural experience began when I was 3 years old. In passive and, now, very active ways the Lord has been directing my path step-by-step. After a WEC Trek to Central Asia and Thailand in 2005 I returned home with a deepened desire to learn more about serving the Lord cross-culturally. After taking the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement, I began a Bachelor’s degree completion program in Global Studies. Now that is complete and I am volunteering with Trek for 2 years as I seek the Lord about full-time service with WEC USA (home staff or overseas). I also work part-time at a local community college and am able to reach out to our many international students. My excitement continues to grow as I see the many ways to be involved in spreading His Kingdom as the nations come to us and as we go to the nations!
The Lord called me to serve Him full-time in missions after I was widowed in 2005, at age 56. I have served in three countries (Spain, Turkey, and Brazil) within a 3-year period (two 5-month trips and one trip for 1-1/2 years), predominantly as an ESL teacher, and am now serving on home staff with WEC Trek. While married, my husband and I were “senders” and now I am a “goer,” and rejoice that the Lord can use us at any age, as long as we’re available to Him and His call on our life. I’m excited to be part of Trek staff and to help others discover the joy of serving the Lord cross-culturally.
